Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplementation

Omega-3 fatty acids substantially enhance cardiovascular health by reducing triglycerides and inflammation, and also significantly improve cognitive function and brain health across all ages.

Omega-3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA, are well-known for their strong cardioprotective effects as well as their cognitive enhancement benefits. For cardiovascular health, they effectively reduce serum triglyceride levels and inflammation, supporting overall heart function. Clinical evidence shows significant benefits in inflammatory marker improvement among patients with chronic cardiovascular conditions [2, 4, 16], along with notable boosts in omega-3 index levels, which correlate with improved heart health outcomes [3]. Despite unsuccessful attempts in some large-scale trials, such as the VITAL study, to demonstrate broad cardiovascular event reduction, workshops show a significant 28% decrease in myocardial infarction rates [14]. Moreover, reductions of 20-50% in triglyceride levels have been consistently observed across diverse groups [5, 23]. For cognition, these fatty acids show significant improvements in memory recall, brain structural integrity, and potentially lower the risk of dementia. Omega-3 intake has beneficial effects in various populations, from children with improvements in memory functions to older adults experiencing a reduction in cognitive decline and improved cognitive maintenance. Studies indicate its potential in enhancing brain structure, memory recall, and executive function, even mitigating physical and cognitive declines (Refs: [26], [27], [28], [29], [30], [31], [32], [33], [34], [35], [36], [37], [39]).
